How To Make My Scents Last Longer
Get the Most Out of Your Luxe Wax Melts
There's nothing quite like the beautiful fragrance of premium wax melts filling your home. But if you've ever wondered why your melt's scent seems to fade too quickly, you're not alone. The good news? With a few simple techniques, you can maximise the scent throw and longevity of your handmade wax melts and squeezable melts.
1. Choose the Right Warmer
Not all wax warmers are created equal. For the best scent throw, use a warmer that gently heats the wax without overheating it. Electric warmers with a temperature control or tea light warmers work beautifully for our premium melts.
Avoid warmers that get too hot, as excessive heat can burn off the fragrance oils too quickly, leaving you with less scent over time.
2. Start with the Right Amount
You don't need to fill your entire warmer dish to get great scent throw. Start with one or two cubes of wax melt (or a small squeeze of squeezable melt) and adjust based on your room size and personal preference.
Using too much wax won't necessarily give you more scent—it's all about finding the sweet spot for your space.
3. Match Your Melt to Your Room Size
Just like with candles, room size matters. A single wax melt cube can beautifully scent a small to medium room, while larger or open-plan spaces may benefit from two cubes or a slightly larger squeeze.
As a guide:
- Small rooms (bathrooms, offices): 1 cube or small squeeze
- Medium rooms (bedrooms, studies): 1-2 cubes or medium squeeze
- Large/open-plan spaces: 2-3 cubes or generous squeeze
4. Don't Overheat Your Melts
Keep your warmer on for 3-4 hours at a time for optimal scent release. Running your warmer all day, every day can cause the fragrance to dissipate faster than necessary.
Think of it like this: fragrance oils are released through gentle, consistent heat. Once the scent has filled your space, you can turn off the warmer and enjoy the lingering fragrance.
5. Know When to Replace Your Wax
You'll know it's time to change your wax when you can no longer smell the fragrance, even when the warmer is on. This typically happens after 8-12 hours of use, depending on the melt and your warmer.
To remove old wax:
- Turn off your warmer and let the wax cool slightly (but not harden completely)
- Use a cotton ball or paper towel to absorb and remove the liquid wax
- Or, let it harden fully and pop it out in one piece
- Wipe the dish clean before adding fresh wax
6. Keep Your Warmer Away from Drafts
Air conditioning vents, open windows, and fans can blow the fragrance away before it has a chance to fill the room. Place your warmer in a stable, draft-free spot for the best scent experience.
7. Store Your Melts Properly
When not in use, keep your wax melts and squeezable melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and UV light can break down the fragrance oils over time, weakening the scent.
Keep them in their original packaging or an airtight container to preserve the fragrance between uses.
8. Layer Scents Thoughtfully
Want to create a custom fragrance experience? You can mix complementary scents, but start with just one melt of each to avoid overwhelming your space. Floral and citrus, vanilla and spice, or fresh and woody scents often pair beautifully together.
